JF writes the following about
women's suffrage:
"First, I don't actually think women should be denied the vote and I never have"
This is simply not true. Here is a direct quote from him from last year, which I have transcribed from my collection of tapes. If his manner of speech seems odd, it is because he does indeed speak very differently from the way he writes:
"Them goddam womens never deserve to vote no way. Things was much better 'n theys was chained to the radiator [pronouced with a short 'a' in the first syllable-ed] doin' what they were always good at, like having babies and tendin' to the young-uns and what not. Then they got to believe they could think and all, and well, you've seen what's happened, right Don? Heh. [here he slapped my knee] [sighs] Well, they's sure purty though, ain't they. Hell yes I want another drink!"
