Perhaps It's Me

I also have to accept that I may simply have a too cowlike, bourgeois view of the world, which is why their behavior sometimes shocks me. They have a zest which I do not.

Ignorant contempt is bad enough already but it's intolerable from people who can claim several of hip, young, rich, expensively educated, good-looking.
Unless, of course, you're all of those things yourself.
